The ECM Modulator’s advanced programming, combines old fashioned common sense and many years of experience, with the high efficiency and silent operation of an ECM motor. The result is a product that eliminates the major complaints associated with residential heating and air conditioning systems while significantly increasing efficiency. The ECM Modulator can be installed on a very wide variety of HVAC systems, new or old, any make or model furnace, air conditioner or heat pump, any fuel, any time of year. The installation is quick, clean and you probably will not notice slight interruption of heat or cooling during the install.

Smoothly and seamlessly modulates the blower for both heating and cooling in response to delivered air temperatures.
The Whisperer 4Z has an on board pressure transducer to limit the duct pressure in zoned systems. Eliminates the
need for inefficient dump zones and bypass dampers! Holds within 0.02” wc. Pressure setting and is easily field
adjustable. No zone system is complete without it.
Jumper allows for furnace or heat pump operation, or both if you want to switch the active mode for hybrid systems.
Accepts a dry contact closure to allow adjustment of AC coil and output temperature from a humidistat signal.

Easily drops humidity 10% and more in most humid climate installations. PLUS, in dry climates it doesn’t dehumidify

any more than any other form of AC. If it doesn’t see a humidity load, it doesn’t go after it!
Minimum speed (IAQ) adjustment allows constant fan in even the most humid climates. Keeps all IAQ

products functioning at peak efficiency. Can be set as low as 200 silent and draft free rpm for those periods

when the blower would normally be off.
Has a 0 to 10 vdc output signal which allows control of frequency drives to modulate single phase or

three phase multiple horsepower pumps and large belt driven fans with the same results and features as

residential equipment.

Digitally computer based programmed, so can be re-programmed for special applications.

ECM motors were designed to MODULATE. Not timed speed steps! (Time is for catching the bus) The ecMModulator provides 100% smooth true, seamless Variable Speed modulation for existing ECM systems and for converting PSC equipment to ECM. Any existing system can be modernized with one “plug & play” unit that fits all applications. HOW IT WORKS

The ECM Modulator

monitors the temperature of the delivered air, and smoothly adjusts the blower speed, to maintain the proper

airflow for every circumstance. So when filters get clogged, homeowners close off vents, the system is not properly charged or was not properly sized in the first place, or whatever the problem may be. The control will sense it and adjust the blower speed to meet the exact need of the system, for both HEATING AND COOLING.

This is especially important on heat pumps, as it will help the system to maintain a steady head pressure, maximizing the life of the compressor, and increasing overall efficiency.

Also during heating, it can’t blow a cold draft, when the air entering the home isn’t very warm, the speed of

that air is slow. As the temperature of the entering air increases, the speed increases. On most winter days, the

blower may never reach full speed before the thermostat is satisfied. Once the heating element shuts off, the blower

glides back down along the temperature path until the blower is running very slow and continuous (optional) until

the next heat cycle. Heat pump systems average about 15° higher for delivered air temperature. This keeps the

delivered air cozy and warm.

AIR CONDITIONING HVAC FACTS

HVAC systems are sized to meet the hottest and the coldest weather conditons you will encounter in a
year’s time. This is called “design conditions”.
In some years, design condtions will happen maybe a couple of days in a year or maybe not at all.
At any time you are not experiencing the hot and muggy air conditoning design conditions, your air

conditioner is off a good portion of the time. During these off periods, humidity builds up in your home.
Because the high speed blower is innefficient at removing humidity, you end up

with that hot and muggy feeling. So, you set the thermostat down and you end up

with the cool and clammy (smelly sock) situation.
Because of the programming of the ecMModulator, it forces your air conditioner to
wring the moisture out of the air. You remain comfortable and cool

HEATING HVAC FACTS

At any time you are not experiencing heating design conditions, your HVAC system

is too large.
The blower starts and blows the same way that it would if it were the coldest day

of the year.
You might be happy to hear the blower going full tilt if it were truly design condition

cold, but not every time it comes on!
The ecMModulator increases the blower’s speed as the temperature of the air coming from your

registers gets warmer. You experience an air speed for each temperature that makes air movement

difficult to feel.
During what would normally be the blower off period, you can run the blower very slowly so that air in

your home remains constantly and silently mixed while all IAQ products work at peak efficiency.

Sudden full speed starts and high speed air movement through an air conditioning coil can strip water off the coil

and down the ductwork where it can contribute to mold growth. Avoidance of mold in HVAC systems is a growing

concern and takes a multi disciplined approach. The ECM Modulator will not cure or prevent mold, but it will

contribute to it’s avoidance and control.

The next time your air conditioning gives you that hot and muggy or cool and clammy feeling or that musty sock smell. REMEMBER, you don’t have to put up with it. You won’t notice true comfort. It’s just there, from room to room, floor to ceiling and all the time.

The ECM Modulator Model HVAC Whisperer 4Z. Is the industry standard for controlling duct pressure in zoned HVAC systems. It can control the duct pressure in a zoned system to within 0.02” wc. It modulates the blower in response to the delivered air temperature, but will not modulate past the easily field-adjustable duct pressure setting. Because temperature controlled blower modulation doesn’t strip water off the coil during air conditioning, the blower can be run continuous in even the most hot and muggy climates. During the periods that the blower would normally be off, air is always moving silently at a gentle rate. Thus all IAQ products are working at a much higher efficiency.

Gentle and continuous air circulation levels out temperatures in the home which often results in the active zones being satisfied before the duct pressure limit is reached. Another very important result from the The ECM Modulator ’s precise control is that the zone system will become less active with fewer opening and closings of zone dampers. Therefore the zone system fades into the background and responds to changes in thermostat settings, sun load and other weather related conditions.
